I have become a hollyhock fanatic since moving to Montana. Maybe it’s because I don’t recall ever seeing them where I grew up. Last summer, I would repeatedly pass an eye-catching patch of bright red along an otherwise dull stretch of highway and always regret not driving slower to investigate. I finally took the exit one day to seek out the color source. Turns out, a nearby botanical skincare shop had planted a dazzling little flower garden right there by the highway. These scarlet hollyhocks were center stage and at their peak.
